Haedran had allowed us sanctuary in his city, helped Erima complete her artifact and the most thrilling of all allowed us to fly along his back. It was the most exhilarating experience I have had in my life. The elder dragon had intrigued me, he was so wise and had experienced so much of life that mine was merely a drop of water in the ocean. Once the necessities had been taken care of for the moment we were given the chance to explore the city.
I had spent several hour walking around taking in the newness of the city yet it was ancient in its ways. The sun was glorious. But in my absence of mind I had gotten lost and night had fallen. Trying to take what I thought was a shortcut turned out to be a mistake.
“Here kitty kitty.” a voice in the dark called out. Turning my head I could make out the appearance of two men behind me. The looks on their faces and snear in their voices proved that a simple mugging was not what they had planned. Turning back to the direction I had been heading the outline of two more men stood before me. Before I could react a nul-field was cast over me. Leaving me without magic or dagger, I was left only with my claws. I slashed at one of my attacker, I was beaten to almost unconsciousness. Just when I didn’t think I could take anymore a shout from the street startled my attackers. Using the last of my strength I shouted and ran for help, that’s when the lights when out.
I came around being held by Ulkraga in front of the keep we had been brought to by Haedran. The following days my mind was a dark place. I had seen a lot and been exposed to things I had never dreamed of. I had fought monsters of legend and survived, traveled with people who stories were being written and told about, traveled through places very few had been, but I had not experienced the vileness and filth the world could hold first hand. I could no longer breeze through life in naive bliss. The sun above the shroud had lost a bit of its warmth and I found its rays slightly cold.
